Built By Nature
The Future of Timber
The Convergence of Cinematic Storytelling & Digital Infrastructure
Project Overview
The "Future of Timber" project, funded by Built by Nature (BbN) and led by Evolving Forests, represents the pinnacle of our full-service approach. Transfixus Creative was brought on not merely to produce film or build a website, but to design a total digital-narrative ecosystem. Our role was to translate a complex, pan-European research initiative into a high-impact digital presence that could effectively bridge the gap between forest management, architectural innovation, and global policy.
The Challenge
The initiative was vast: it involved a multi-country documentary series, a podcast library, and a massive repository of technical reports. The challenge was to ensure that the "humanity" captured in our films wasn't lost in the technicality of the data. We needed a creative partner role that would handle the intense logistical weight of international production while simultaneously architecting a digital home that could process, filter, and showcase these interconnected assets for an audience of high-level industry professionals.
Our Approach
We engineered this project as a symbiotic system, where the films and the platform were built to amplify one another:
International Field Production: We led an intensive, multi-country production effort, filming from the alpine forests of Switzerland to timber-tech factories in Germany. This provided the "emotional pulse" of the project, grounding complex forestry concepts in real, visual narratives.
Complex Digital Architecture: Recognizing that the research was as critical as the film, we built a bespoke, data-rich website. This was a sophisticated "beast" of a build—designed to house thousands of assets, featuring custom filtering systems that allow users to cross-reference films with deep-dive technical reports.
Unified Visual Language: We ensured that the "grit and grace" of our cinematic style translated directly into the website’s UI. The site uses a tactile, grid-based aesthetic that mirrors the structural nature of timber construction, providing a cohesive brand experience from the first frame of video to the final click on a research paper.
The Result
The Future of Timber platform is now a definitive global resource. By managing the production of the films and the development of the website as a singular entity, we ensured that the narrative remained consistent and the user experience remained frictionless. The platform has become a high-performance tool for advocacy, enabling BbN and Evolving Forests to present their research with the same professional rigor that they bring to their policy work.
